Bigger, Better, Cleaner Plant Library

Monday, January 26th, 2009

We know you like the Plant Library for it’s helpful descriptions of plants and how to care for them. And we’ve taken your feedback to improve the Plant Library.

We’ve added helpful articles to the Plant Library with information on how to grow seeds, the correct way to water, and much more. My own watering style of my Lipstick Plant at work inspired Dr Robby to write “How To: Water Your Plants - Watering plants is more involved than simply pouring the rest of a half-drunk glass of water over a potted plant.” In my defense, I was getting a full water glass. Read the article to find out the “right” way to water. As Matt E says, the top three causes of plant failures are water, water, and water. (overwater, underwater, and incorrectly watering).

Also, be sure to look at our most Popular Plants and most Recently Added Plants. We’re constantly adding plants to our 5,000+ Plant Library, and now you can catch us in the act and see what’s new!

We cleaned up the look of the Plant Details (Example at Firecracker Plant) We also added thumbnails so it’s even easier to ID a plant. Also, once you find a plant, you can Monitor it immediately, right from the Plant Detail.

Confused by your EasyBloom Sensor? Consult the soundboard to get the rundown of every sound an EasyBloom sensor makes.

I hope you enjoy the new, cleaner Plant Library!

FIND THAT PLANT and Relevant Recommendations

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Everyone has at least one. That plant, sitting on your desk, in your kitchen, in your back yard, or even worse, in your memory.

The plant you have no idea what it is. “It’s green….about 2 feet tall….has red blooms….and is prickly.” Now, with our new feature of Find THAT Plant, you can refine by Plant Type of Succulent, 2 feet tall, and has red blooms, and quickly see from the plant photos that you’re thinking of a Christmas Cactus! Try it, it’s addictive.

Once you’ve found a plant, add it to “My Plants” for future reference.

We know we have a 5,000+ plant library (with more plants added every day), but it can be overwhelming to see 1000+ recommendations at once. Now, in Recommendation mode we will only show you the “Top Plants” (most relevant and popular). Right from the top picks, you can also “See More like this” to browse more like a certain plant. After you’ve seen our top picks, you can click on “See All Recommended Plants” to see all your options.

We are constantly adding plants to our plant library. If you have a plant we don’t have, please send us an email to plants@plantsense.com, and we’ll add it.
