Technical Help » Chirp sounds and blinking colored lights and their meanings
Hi Kim, here it is: http://www.easybloom.com/support/sounds.html
Technical Help » Multiple readings in recommend mode
Hi Bartley, Great question! I'm going to try to answer by first explaining how the sensor data is handled. EasyBloom looks at light, temperature, and humidity data in terms of a 24-hour cycle. Regardless of the number of times you press the start and stop button during deployment, EasyBloom will map all this data on a 24-hour grid. If it has enough data to make an accurate depiction of the 24-hour cycle of that location, it will give recommendations based on this data. Soil data is a little different, since it does not operate on a 24-hour cycle. But again, all of it is used together in the same reading. So you can upload multiple sampling intervals from the same location, and EasyBloom will make correct recommendations as long as it has enough data. To get recommendations for multiple locations, you will have to upload your data before you move the sensor each time, otherwise it will lump all the data together. Does that answer your questions? Also (since we love to hear feature ideas from our customers!) would you like a feature where you could collect data from multiple locations without plugging in the sensor in between? Thanks! ~MattE
Feature Ideas » Changes to Find That Plant
Hi Thomas! Matt the Botanist here. You clearly have an astute eye for carnivorous plants and their environmental needs. The plants you mention (sundew, flytraps, and pitcher plants) were not entered correctly in our database. Thanks to your attention, our botanists are fixing the database right now, so the temperature problem will be fixed the next time we update the EasyBloom code. We really appreciate expert users like you pointing out where we fail. It helps us fix problems before they impact too many people! Thanks again!
Technical Help » Monitor mode taking VERY long time.
Jim, Thanks for the good questions. Let us know what you think of our fern feedback when you plug in your EasyBloom! Matt
Technical Help » Monitor mode taking VERY long time.
Hi Jim, Noam is out today, so I'll try to jump in for him. You can leave safely leave your EasyBloom with a plant for up to two weeks as long as you water whenever it makes the ascending tone. It sounds to me like you water this spot frequently, so it is unlikely that your EasyBloom will ever alert you to water your fern there. In this case where you are watering before your EasyBloom alerts, a "watering cycle" would be the amount of time between any two waterings. So it's safe to collect your data as long as you have left it out for one watering cycle (for the soil advice) and at least 24 hours (for the other sensors). We have heard a lot of user confusion about the definition of a watering cycle, so I will suggest that we update our instructions for monitor mode to clarify this point. Thanks for using our product, and keep the great questions coming! Matt
Hi Holly, The original EasyBloom does not have the capability to measure fertilizer. The Fertilizer Subscription is only available to EasyBloom Plus Users. We're sorry about any confusion! Thanks! Matt
Technical Help » Same light requirements???
Hi Stephanie, the answer to your question is here: http://easybloom.com/support/faq.html#67 -- Basically EasyBloom uses more specific light data than the standard light labels (i.e. Full sun, Partial sun, etc.) can describe, so sometimes the recommendations seem to contradict what the Plant Detail screen says. Good question!
Ask the Plant Doctor » zone question
Hi Annette, Yes, zone 6b came from your zipcode base on the 1990 USDA Hardiness Zone map. This map is admittedly out of date, since it was made before the new climate models based on global warming. Arbor Day made an updated Hardiness Zone map in 2006, which has a zipcode look-up here: http://www.arborday.org/treeinfo/zonelookup.cfm This map says you are in 6 or 7. We are currently testing a feature that allows you to set your Hardiness Zone as you wish, so look out for that update soon, under My EasyBloom :: My Profile. Hope that helps! Matt

Hi Raymond, A watering cycle is the time between waterings. If you are watering every three days, then put EasyBloom in the pot when you water, and plug it in when it is time to water again. Hope that helps! Matt
Hi Brian, Matt the agricultural engineer here. Good question! Direct sunlight is exactly what it sounds like, it's sunlight that is hitting the sensor without obstruction. The bell-shaped curve you speak of could all be direct sunlight. So why doesn't the Plant's View graph show all of this as the same intensity? The Plant's View graphs show more or less the raw data measured by EasyBloom. By Lambert's cosine law, light measured on a (basically) flat surface is directly proportional to the cosine of the angle of the light source from a line pointing straight up from the surface. In other words, as the sun rises and sets, the light measured by a horizontal surface goes up and then down because of the oblique geometry between source and sensor. However, this doesn't matter to plants, who capture light efficiently from any angle. So EasyBloom takes Lambert's cosine law into consideration along with your local weather when calculating your light level (Full Sun, Partial Sun, etc.), which is based on hours of direct sunlight. So to answer your question (finally!), there is no cutoff for direct sunlight on the Plant's View graph. Does that make sense?
