Gardening is generally seen as therapeutic, but the therapy doesn’t come from the fact that they are listening to your problems of your day as you tend for them. Plants do not have ears. They lack central nervous systems. They can’t hear us talking to them. So why is it people claim that their plants grow better when they are talking to them. When tackling this particular myth, one should mark this up to correlation rather than causation. People who talk to their plants will probably also take better care of their plants. Personifying our plants also allows us to have greater empathy for our plants. If a gardener empathizes with their plants, chances are they would have more guilt if they did not take care of them or even worse let the plants die. Unless you have been cast as the lead role in Little Shop of Horrors your plants will most likely not talk back to you. So you can save your breath.
