EasyBloom Lame or What!

I bought this with the idea of an all in one analyzer. But instead I found this to be lame and definately for the novice.
A little research can be more informative and helpful.
As for the readings of Light, temp. and moisture - I look outside, have a thermometer, and stick my finger in the ground! The Fertizer feature is as lame and says very little. Also, the recommendations feature does not say any more than is common knowlege. But the "Buy", from Burpee, immediately made me suspect of the units intent.
Buy a cheap soil analyzer kit or hand held and compare it to the plants needs which can be found all over the web. Put your info into a computerized searchable records/journal and your set. This is definately for the novice.

I'm finding the "plants view" feature very helpful as it tracks the sun/shade intensity hour by hour and EasyBloom has helped recommend plants that I never imagined could thrive in some of my tested locations. I'm new to EasyBloom, but have gardened for many years and I love the location analysis as I have widely different growing conditions throughout my yard and I taking soil samples and using test tubes got old really fast.

I got mine as a gift and I find it somewhat useful. All I really care about is the sunlight monitor. It beats looking out the window every 30 minutes to get an accurate measure. The HEAVY marketing dosage from Burpee is a bit disappointing I agree. To a master gardener, which I am not, it could be lame I suppose. I like mine and I do enjoy reading the formums.

Good for you Judy what works works. I wish you success! I love not only the looks of a good garden but the birds, butterfies and benficial bees and insects they attract. But I too have various locations with vastly different conditions but intensity is a no brainer, the recommendations area is very nice and can be a great help. But I do test several times a season - which takes me less time than waiting and downloading info I find obvious. I like to know more about the soil itself like, PH, organic content, and mineral content before and during the growing season. This way I have alot more control over the areas and can better tailor each area for the types of plants I grow in each and have a higher degree of success. After 40 yrs. of gardening I waisted the first 5 yrs. with just worrying about sun, water, soil temp. and fertilizers which older programs stressed and which EB is based on. My gardens really took off when an older gardener taught me about matching my gardens based not only the obvious of sun, water, and temps. but also stressed the greater importance of the soil types, ammendments, minerals, PH and specific plant needs in each of those areas. He also taught by testing and adding exactly what you need will unlock the nutrients already in the soil so you won't need but very little of the heavy fertilizer recommendations from EB. I hope EB in the future will give a more expanded reading and info in the areas I mentioned as well as the ability to monitor the EB in real time. Then the EB would be a gardeners dream come true.

I know that PH is important for azaleas and blueberries, but most of the plants that I am interested in grow well in a wide range of PH readings.
The honey locust that the city planted on the terrace creates shade that changes throughout the day. A light sensor that records readings and then loads them into my computer, wouldn't that be nice? The Easy Bloom does this. It is the only device I can find that does this. For less than I would spend on that cute little trellis I have been coveting.
A probe that measures soil ph? They got those. For four hundred dollars!

I'm a novice but have tried lots of stuff and the EasyBloom is way more useful for me than those cheap meters or soil kits. I am having more success with less time. My wife knows a lot more than me although not a master gardner. She likes it too, particularly when she decides to redo part of our yard.

I'm guessing that for a master gardener, using the Easy Bloom is like cheating. I am absolutely a novice gardener but I do have a growing interest in gardening.
I love my easy bloom and it has saved me money trying out plants in areas that aren't right for them.
I also get a lot of great info from the forums, and especially from the "Plant Dr."
Thank you Easy Bloom!!

i think really its going to be more about what it is your doing and growing. im a carnivorous plant grower. the easybloom is really helping me save allot of time getting my outside temps and light readings. seeing that i work a lot i cant just set around looking outside a window. the data it gives me has already made a dig difference on how my plats are looking. it is also helping me get my plants to thayer dormant stage allot easier.
so to say it is lame i would have to disagree. now i wished thay would add a few things. but i got it so i could see what is really going on and to help me to improve the environment for my plants so i can receive a full life span and to get a more healthy plant live and it is doing just that.
thank you

I will say easy bloom doesn't teach you about pests, diseases, fertilizer balances and a lot of the stuff you have to deal with, but it does give you a solid on the basics. I can say I tend to use easybloom mostly when I see a plant is struggling without obvious signs as to what condition is causing it. Oregeno was one easy bloom helped a great deal to be honest I was over fertilizing the thing which amazed me, but since I monitored it until the fertilizer balanced out over time it's thriving. Most of the recommendations easy bloom have given me have been spot on. So I will say well worth the price for me. Saved me money on buying plants that wouldn't have stood a chance in my conditions. (As cheap as easybloom is it probably only takes a year or two for a small garden to offset it's cost)
