Sow seeds in a cold frame in autumn or spring in containers. Hybrids may result as the species cross freely. In early spring, divide. Summer, root semi-ripe basal cuttings.
Evergreen perennials and subshrubs. Does best with full sun. Forms tidy mounds of narrow, stiff evergreen leaves. Grows best in a rock garden or trough. Also works well at the front of a border.
Flowers in spring to early summer. Comes in several colors including white, pink, rose or red.
Needs little to moderate water. Well-drained soils, poor to moderately fertile.
