We are highly impressed with the blooming power of this favorite choice for cut flowers. Lined along Burpee's raised vegetable beds, 'Oktoberfest' keeps blooming and blooming, from early spring right on to the middle of summer. Full 2 1/2" flowers are intense deep orange with a small dark eye, topping long, sturdy stems. Keep cutting! Ht: 20-24".

Plant Care
Planting:

Seeds can be sown in the ground or in flats in late Summer or early Fall in mild-Winter climates. Everywhere else, the seeds should be sown in Spring.

Plant Growth:

Bushy, fast-growing annuals and woody-based evergreen perennials. Calendulas can range in size from 1 to 2 ft. tall and 1 to 1 1/2 feet wide. Grows best in sun or partial shade. The flowers are suitable for cutting as they are long lasting. Grow annuals in an informal border. Calendulas grow well in containers as well.

Blooming:

They easily provide color from late fall to spring in mild-winter climates. In colder climates, Calendulas will bloom from spring to mid-summer. Deadhead to lengthen the flowering period.

Soil and Irrigation:

Calendulas adapt to most soils as long as the drainage is adequate.

Pests:

Snails, slugs, aphids, and whiteflies can cause problems. Other issues include powdery mildew, aster yellows, fungal leaf spots, rust, gray mold, white smut, and cucumber mosaic virus.
