Although the Needle Palm is native to the Southeast of the United States, they can be found in relatively cold climates. These palms are considered one of the most cold hardy palms. You can find these in gardens in Northeastern United States where the summers also get hot and humid.

Needle Palms are fan palms known for their hardiness to extreme cold. Unlike Trachycarpus fan palms, they need a hot, humid summer to survive, so they don't do well in cool temperate regions.

Plant Care
Planting:

Sow seeds in spring and maintain a temperature between 60 and 65°F.

Soil and Irrigation:

For container plantings, use soil-based potting medium. Otherwise plant in any well-drained soil. Water freely during the growing season. Water sparingly in winter.

Fertilization:

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season.

Pests:

Prone to mealybugs, spider mites and scale when not given adequate aeration.
