Planting:

Sow seeds from late winter to early spring when average temperatures rise above 70F. Stem cuttings can be taken in spring, late summer or early fall.

Plant Growth:

Pelargoniums perform best in climates that have hot, dry days and cool nights, similar to that of western South Africa. There are many species which result in varied plant needs. Can be grown outdoors year round in climates that have mild winters.

Blooming:

Blooms when the weather gets warm.

Soil and Irrigation:

Requires good, fast-draining soil.

Fertilization:

Pelargoniums that are being grown in light sandy soils should be fed with a complete fertilizer 3 times during the growing season.  When in bloom, fertilize with a high-potash fertilizer.

Pests:

Aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites.
