Plant Care

Propagate from the seed when the danger of frost has passed. Leptodermis also produces root suckers.

Plant Growth:

Deciduous, dwarf shrub. Does best with full sun or partial shade. Grows to be about 12-18" tall. Works well as a hedge, or low shrub, in rock gardens and border fronts. Leptodermis requires little maintenance.


In late spring, blooms clusters of tubular, fragrant, violet-purple colored flowers. From summer to fall, reduced blooms occur intermittently on new wood.

Soil and Irrigation:

Grows best in soil that is well-draining with medium moisture content and average fertility.


Needs soil with average fertility to grow well.


No pruning is generally necessary.
